Often, designers in the layout of a room advise using the podium – a small elevation that came to us from ancient architecture. In addition to purely decorative properties, it can solve several problems of a small room and hide some flaws of construction or redevelopment .
For example, in a room that combines the functions of the bedroom and the living room, the podium can visually highlight the area for sleep and rest – a small elevation on which the bed can be additionally curtained in curtains. Another solution for a berth is to hide the bed itself inside a high podium. So, in the daytime, it will hide and save space, and before going to bed – roll out into the room.
The solutions are traditional, where a workplace or zone for relaxation is built on the catwalk – again, within the same room, you can diversify its functional zones. No less familiar is the use of the podium in the kitchen – there they often have a dining table there. But in the bathroom under it you can still carefully hide sewer communications, and in the case of combined bathrooms – to mark the territory between the toilet and shower or bathroom.
Most often, the podium is mounted from drywall – but this is if it carries decorative functions and is not intended for placing heavy objects on it. If the podium is designed for a load, it is based on a frame from a strict beam.
